Mockingbird Come Home - A Book of Poetry - Book Review

"Poetry cannot be made of words alone." How very true, and being a poet, Stephen B. Wiley offers so much more than words in his wonderful collection, "Mockingbird Come Home." The pages here are filled with memories and moments, emotions, settings, and paintings artistically created with words.

"Mockingbird Come Home" is what poetry is meant to be. Depicting a moment in time, a place in the heart, he writes of "Where We Live" and "Who We Are," the two sections of the book. The "where" is about places I know personally, not that it matters, for the settings described in Vermont, Florida, and New Jersey are easily seen with the imagination, helped along with Wiley's words. From a low-water Lake Champlain to the colorful vibrancy of Key West, the memories of places he shares are more personal than postcards. The "who" is even more endearing, with tales told so eloquently of gnarled and vein mapped hands, the grandparent naps before dinner, and the poet who becomes the poem.

Reading the verses of Stephen B. Wiley is a joy to be compared with spending a day in an art gallery. The admirer will see different aspects of each work of art, perhaps what the artist/poet intended, but maybe something else entirely. The joy is in the discovery. "Mockingbird Come Home" is a poetic delight of excellent work. I loved it.

More Ways to Play MMORPG's Effectively

Playing MMORPG's effectively can't be summed up in a simple list, it's a continual process of trial and error, and books could be written on it. Nevertheless, here are some more tips on playing MMORPG's effectively.

Join Communities Find one fansite/community that you like and stick to it. Start posting their and try to be helpful, but also ask questions. You can leverage your helpfulness to squeeze information out of people for game strategies, team builds, and meet up with dedicated gamers to meet up with in game. If anyone is serious about an MMORPG it'd be the people talking about it whilst they're not playing it.

Find a Guild Having a guild to fight under has many advantages. Firstly, many quests in games, or large scale PvP require a significant amount of people. Having a group of random people isn't very useful. In a guild proper organization can be done, with direction, strategy, and pre-defined skill sets. It'll allow you to player smarter than harder.

Bigger and Better Don't spend weeks and weeks killing boars to level up to kill your biggest rival. Continually push your character and move on to bigger and better things. In most MMORPG's the worst thing that happens when you die is you have to walk a small distance, so it's a good idea to test your character and see if he/she can take on larger monsters. If they can then it'll no doubt make the game more entertaining and will level you up make faster.

Dog Treat Recipe - Sor-bay at the Moon

Dessert Category

Sor-bay at the Moon

Category: Dessert

Serves: 3 dozen

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Cooking Time: 0 minutes

Quick Tips:

Baby food is a great way to give your dog's nutritional intake a kickstart. It's typically all natrual, contains lots of vitamins and minerals, is easy to digest, and dogs love it. It is the perfect way to give your dog a treat they like that is also nutritional.

Ingredients:

950 ml (4 cups) yogurt (any flavour) 1 jar baby food, fruit flavour 30 ml (2 Tbsp) honey 30 ml (2 Tbsp) natural peanut butter Preparation & Cooking: Puree all ingredients in a food processor. Keep it going until it is a smooth mixture. We don't want any lumps in there. Get your ice cube trays and pour the mixture into them. You will probably need 2 - 3 depending on the size. Now pop them in your freezer so they can at least freeze over night. When serving you can microwave briefly or pop them on the bench so they can thaw slightly before serving. You must be careful though as you don't want it melting and going all over the place. Best if you put it outside otherwise you will be either mopping the floor or worse yet, getting your carpets steam cleaned.

7 Top Tips For Running a Happy Coffee Shop

If you are considering running a coffee shop, one of the most important things to get right is to how to get the best from your staff.

Whilst you may be used to the idea that the customer is always right, if you want to run a happy coffee shop, you should consider putting your staff first! I f your employees are happy, then they will give excellent service to your customers, and your customers will be happy. So, it is worth taking note of the following points:

Teach your staff how to handle difficult situations. If you observe them handling a difficult situation badly, do not criticize. Tell them "I don't know how I would have dealt with that problem - I'll need to think about it" Treat your staff with courtesy and respect. They will usually give the same in return. Discuss your training requirements with your supervisors before you begin to train your staff, so that your management structure is cohesive and working towards the same goals. Set weekly or monthly training sessions. Use these sessions to highlight strengths and weaknesses of your staff, and ask your staff if there are any points they wish to raise. NEVER reprimand any member of staff in front of other staff or customers. If you have a complaint with their work, discuss this in private. If you have a problem with a member of staff, raise the problem you wish to discuss and finish with praise. If you manage your staff with tact, they will listen to your complaint without resentment. Finally, remember - you are creating a team, without your team you do not have a business.

Energy Bill - Too Little, Too Late

Is the energy bill enough or too little, too late? If it were twenty years ago the recent bill passed by the U.S Senate would have been applauded for its foresight and innovation. While not getting all that they wanted, the bill includes provisions that would increase fuel mileage to a fleet average of 35mpg by 2020; boost ethanol production sevenfold; prevent oil price gouging; increase appliance and lighting efficiencies; and, provide research into more energy efficient vehicles.

As was expected, the now anti-environment Republicans killed a tax on oil companies to help fund renewable energy as well as a requirement to force utilities to bur electricity from renewable energy suppliers. It would appear that Republicans have grown too accustomed to feeding off of the oil producers to even think of taking any of their record making profits. And they wonder why they will lose in 2008?

If this bill passed twenty years ago, assuming the President signs it, this would have been hailed as an environmental milestone. My concern, however, is that based upon the U.N. global climate change reports, we do not have until 2020 to begin the process of reducing green house gas emissions. If fleet averages just reach 35mpg by 2020 there is no expectation that everyone is going to run out and purchase a new vehicle at that time. It will take years past the 2020 date before major reductions in emissions are felt. That kind of time is not on our side.

According to the DAILY FUEL ECONOMY TIP the following information relates to fuel economy of several U.S. vs. Japanese auto makers:

Top 5 Most Fuel Efficient American Cars:

1. Ford Escape Hybrid - 36 mpg city / 31 mpg highway

2. Chevy Aveo - 26 mpg city / 35 mpg highway

3. Ford Focus - 26 mpg city / 34 mpg highway

4. Chevy Cobalt - 25 mpg city / 34 mpg highway

5. Ford Fusion - 24 mpg city / 32 mpg highway

Top 5 Most Fuel Efficient Japanese Cars:

1. Honda Insight - 60 mpg city / 66 mpg highway

2. Toyota Prius - 60 mpg city / 51 mpg highway

3. Honda Civic Hybrid - 49 mpg city / 51 highway

4. Toyota Corolla - 32 mpg city / 41 mpg highway

5. Toyota Matrix - 30 mpg city / 36 mpg highway

The obvious question raised from the above is, what is so exciting about getting 35mpg by the year 2020? The Japanese are far exceeding these standards now! The technology obviously exists to make immediate impacts on climate change and U.S. auto makers will find themselves wondering why their sales continue to decline.

Even now we are seeing drastic changes in the climate and factors not even considered in the UN's equations are cropping up. The poles are saturated with CO2, glacial melt is faster and other unsuspected factors are emerging that were not even considered in earlier projections. The web of nature is so complex we do not understand or account for all of those relationships in our modeling and our predictions. Most informed scientists say we have to act now to reduce emissions and political leaders are still acting as if we have decades to solve or at least address climate change issues. All evidence is to the contrary.

A recent ABC News story says the following:

"Even "moderate additional" greenhouse emissions are likely to push Earth past "critical tipping points" with "dangerous consequences for the planet," according to research conducted by NASA and the Columbia University Earth Institute.

With just 10 more years of "business as usual" emissions from the burning of coal, oil and gas, says the NASA/Columbia paper, "it becomes impractical" to avoid "disastrous effects." By heralding the new research paper, NASA is endorsing science that places considerably more urgency on the need to reduce emissions to avoid "disastrous effects" of global warming than was evident in the recent reports from the world's scientists coordinated by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The new NASA release emphasizes the danger of "strong amplifying feedbacks" pushing Earth past "dangerous tipping points."

Regardless of all of the back slapping for this new piece of environmental legislation, the public must come to understand that the called for measures are too little, too late. We do not have until 2020 to start making major changes in the way we live. Our own government agencies are issuing dire warnings but our politicians are off in the ozone layer somewhere, assuming there still is one.

Business Travel - 3 Reasons To Opt For Corporate Apartments

Are you an avid business traveler fed up with hotels and the sale cold world of corporate package deals? Traveling the world and doing business globally can be exciting but being away from home for that long can be truly demanding. Although hotels have come a long way to cater for business travel, it still has that hotel feel and whether you are in Tokyo or New York - it all looks and feels the same. Recently corporate apartments and long stay hotels became a real good alternative and it really does offer a lot more.

There are a number of reasons why corporate apartments are such a good option. Lets look at the 3 most compelling reasons and why you need to look into a corporate apartment on your next business trip.

1. Price Hotel costs can really add up quickly and the fact that its not tax deductible means that its a financial burden on your business. The more luxury you want the more expensive it gets. Corporate apartments on the other hand are much cheaper and you truly get more bang for your buck.

2. Comfort When you travel a lot, space is the biggest issue. Spending long hours on a crammed plane and then stepping into a crammed hotel room can take its toll. Corporate apartments are "real" apartments that offer a lot more space. It really is a home away from home.

3. Location While most hotels are very well located in central business areas, corporate apartments are usually just as well located. Often its in much livelier areas where there are urban neighborhoods. Hotels are usually in "cold and lifeless" parts of cities where nothing happens after the 9 to 5 is over. Urban neighborhoods on the other hand are lively and filled with people and a great vibe which can make your stay all the more pleasant.

5 Affiliate Marketing Mistakes To Avoid

Many people with the best intentions fail at affiliate marketing because they fail to recognize some common mistakes in their strategy. The worst part is that most of these key mistakes occur long before the affiliate page is written and the links inserted. Here are 5 major mistakes to avoid in your affiliate marketing ventures.

1. Picking the wrong market

To be a successful affiliate you need to pick the right market. Too many people fall into the trap of finding a great product then trying to find a market. Really you have to find a market, then give that market what they want (a product!). Do the right research to find a good market. Use the tools like those at yahoo search marketing to see which markets are saturated and which have room for new products. Find out the interest in that market by how many people are searching for its major keywords each month. Keep in mind the bigger the market the harder it is to get traffic and the more expensive also. Not only that, the more time you will have to spend maintaining your pages to keep your traffic flowing.

2. Don't Sell... PRESELL!

This one is a biggie. Too many affiliates make the mistake of putting too much of a sales pitch on their page... Big mistake! Here's what happens: Prospect reads your sales pitch... they are enthralled, they find your click here link and click on through to the merchant page. The merchant (as they have to) hits the propect with ANOTHER sales pitch that may or not be better or different to the one the affiliate has written and they have just read. They feel frustrated and insulted that they have been made to read the same information twice and what's worse, they start to feel as though they are being pressured into purchasing the product... next... yep you guessed it they leave! Affililate commission out the window. Don't, whatever you do make this mistake. If you do i can say with confdence that you will be lucky to make a single affiliate sale.

3. No content.

Opposite to mistake number 2, many affiliates become so enthralled with the concept of being able to make money just with a link that they over look the need for quality content and good information. I have seen affiliate pages with a bunch of picture and text links but no content. It just looks blatantly like a whole bunch of advertisements which if you've ever noticed... people tend to do everything in their power to avoid! Your page needs to give the prospect an opportunity to gain your trust and promote the merchants product in the right way, the effective way. Content is essential and there are many theories on the most appropriate content for affiliate pages. Whatever you do, just avoid having no content!

IGI And Family History Library - Some Tips On Finding Out Your Past!

The Church of Jesus Christ of LSD or the latter day saint has a family history library. This has more than 300,000 books, two million records in the form of microfilms and around 400,000 microfiche. Also there are a collection of manuscripts like indexes, family and local histories and other documents to help in genealogical research.

This library has a varied collection of information from different countries like China, Hungary, Chile and Netherlands. But more emphasis is given on countries like America, Europe, Great Britain and Canada. Using the archives the researchers can search for the original documents of the ancestors.

When it comes to the amount of information it holds from the United States, It has various documents from courthouses all around the country and regional and state records. The records containing the census of 1790 and 1920 are also present there.

This Family history library is very famous for its extensive knowledge and excellent assistance. One can get the staff's help to guide them throughout the search. Family Search computerized system and the loan programs between the libraries are other two main sources which are present in almost all the branches of this center all over world.

The International Genealogical Index (IGI)

Index record houses the birth and marriage records of all the people in its society, even of the dead. It originally begins by the submission of records by both the church members and others. In 1969 the Church of Latter saints started the IGI. And however the records dating to the time before 1970 were extracted. Improvement in the Extraction program was made just to prevent the people from getting documents from the church records. There are over hundred volunteers involved. They travel worldwide to film the documents. Then the other volunteers will transcribe these records on films.

The Family History Library has come out with a list of records, The parish and vital records, which were extracted and listed in the IGI from almost all the geographical areas, the time periods and the new records. Usually the volunteers copy documents like birth, death, marriages of the dead, the extraction of these records do not focus mainly on the ancestral lines of the members and the church volunteers.

The IGI has over 250 names listed in it. Most of the names are got from documents which date back to the time of 16th and 19th centuries. But at the same time not every name in the listed countries and those from the index documents are included in the IGI.

However, the names are not restrained to the people who are related to the members of the LSD. The IGI can be accessed anywhere from the Family history centers and library all around the country. Some of the genealogical centers and main libraries also have this facility. You can also access it through microfiche and CD-ROM.

Do not come to the false conclusion that all the records listed on IGI are accurate and taken from the original. There can always differ. And there is also a possibility that you may find incomplete records. At times the records may contain only dates and names. Those records which are complete were recorded before 1992. But never the less the Genealogical Index serves as a great and a vast source of information.

A 2-Minute Stress Buster

Meditation seems to have arrived in the mainstream of late, and for good reasons. As reported in a 2004 issue of Time Magazine -- brain imaging shows that meditation actually shifts your brain's activity from the right side of your brain, over to the left side.

So what?

Such a shift calms your brain's often overworked "rational thinking center," and reduces the stress response.

This shift of activity to the left side of the brain immediately allows you to be less stressed -- and almost instantly far more relaxed and mentally focused.

The following is a quick and easy seated meditation for rapid stress reduction, relaxed alertness, greatly increased energy and mental clarity. You'll also get an easy boost toward healthy longevity.

This simple exercise takes advantage of the direct connection of your eyes to the optic nerve -- which is a direct pathway to the higher thinking centers of your brain.

The resulting "message" tells your mind to unwind and release stress. The measurable *net result* is an instant increase in your slower alpha and theta brainwaves -- the meditation secret to calm mental awareness. This is also a great way to instantly drop your blood pressure, and often also seems to have the effect of easing tension headaches.

Just follow these simple steps to quickly bust your stress:

1. Sit upright in a comfortable chair, keeping your spine as straight as comfortable. (Don't force it.)

2. Position your feet flat on the floor.

3. Allow your eyes to gaze comfortably downward.

4. Soften your focus, and don't "look" at anything in particular.

5. Keep your eyes open, but allow your eyelids to "droop"as far down as comfortable (don't force them to drop lower).

6. Continue to gaze downward, focusing on nothing in particular.

7. Gently notice that your breathing has become very regular and comfortable.

8. Don't resist if your attention begins to drift. Just allow yourself to soften your focus and remain calm.

9. If your eyes want to close, let them do so.

10. Maintain your meditation for as long as you wish.

End your meditation with two or three mentally-energizing deep, slow breaths.
